November 14, 2020 - Tau Gamma Reunion, Indio, California

My old high school buddies and I were having a weekend get together in Indio -- just down the Interstate from Palm Springs -- California.  So I departed Tucson, got on Interstate 10 and headed north to Phoenix and then west to Indio.

I had never driven this route before and was stunned by experience nothing but desert all the way from Phoenix to Indio.  For 240 miles, there's nothing out there, man.

Information about deserts at a rest stop.  I guess I was cruising through the Colorado Desert.

Indio was like a desert oasis.  Everything was green, nice, manicured, upscale.  We had rented a very nice resort house for the weekend, in a gated community.  This is our front yard.

This is the back yard.  Pool, Jacuzzi, and yes, putting green.

Another look at the pool.

Obligatory group shot.  From left to right:  Dale, Jack, Chuck, Peter, Bill, Craig, Nelson, Stan.

On these get togethers, we drink a lot and tell the same old stories and lies.

The first day, Saturday, we went golfing at one of the many golf courses in Indio.

Interesting trees.

Indio is on the eastern side of the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains, in the the Coachella Valley.  It is 128 miles east of Los Angeles.

In addition to the main kitchen, there was an outdoor kitchen area.

Sunday morning we watched the UCLA - California football game.  UCLA was supposed to have played another team, but that team cancelled due to the Chinese flu.  The same thing happened to Cal.  So the two teams played each other on a Sunday morning, not knowing they were going to play each other until a few days before.  What a year!

Half of our group went to UCLA.

Pete goes crazy after UCLA scores.

Go Bruins.

UCLA ended up winning the game.

That afternoon we had a sports tournament consisting of six events:  golf putting, ping pong, corn hole, pool, and bocce ball.

We started off with golf putting.

Peter takes his golf very seriously.

Stan prepares to throw his corn bag.

Stan prepares to roll his Bocce Ball.

I'm happy to say, thanks to a strong performance in ping pong, I won the overall tournament!  Yay!

Nice palm trees in the backyard.
